Katathong Golf Resort & Spa

This is a hilly course located in the deep mountain valley of a former tin mine. The course name Kataton means "golden valley" and the course is surrounded by mountains. The site is full of ups and downs, and ponds and bunkers are scattered throughout, making use of the natural elevation difference with ups and downs. The fairway is relatively narrow, and there are large and small ponds, streams, palm trees, and bunkers on both sides of the holes and greens, so this course requires precise course strategy and accuracy. There are more impressive holes on the inside than on the outside. All four par 3s have a large difference in elevation, but they are fun to play. The last two holes are quite difficult. The green is almost flat, with some subtle undulations. The mountain scenery can be seen from all points on the course, and the view of the holes and the mountains behind them from the tee on the 3rd and 16th holes is particularly good. The course as seen from the clubhouse is spectacular and the waterfalls on the course are beautiful. The greens are in good condition, and both the fairway and the rough are well maintained.

Laguna Golf Phuket

This is the only course located in the magnificent resort area "Laguna", where five-star hotels stand side by side. The course was created by converting the surrounding wetlands into a lagoon, and on the flat ground, coconut and palm trees and the lagoon line one or both sides of the holes. The fairway is quite wide. Water is involved in many of the OUT holes, and the IN, which was once a coconut plantation, meanders through a magnificent forest. In general, the fairway is wide, but the trees overhanging both sides of the fairway sometimes interfere with play and are an accent on many holes. There are not many bunkers, but they come into play at key points.
A full renovation by Paul Jansen took a year and a half to complete, and was completed in January 2015. The OUT and IN were swapped, and many artificial undulations were added to the FW to make the greens more undulating. The number of bunkers was also increased, making it a strategic course. Even after the renovation, the course maintains the open resort feel where players can play at their own pace while chatting, rather than playing seriously and focusing on their scores.

Blue Canyon Country Club (Lake Course)

The course, with a moderate ups and downs of 22 meters, was built on the site of what was originally a tin mine and rubber plantation. Blue Canyon Country Club (Canyon Course)

The course is built on land that was once a tin mine and rubber plantation, and makes the most of the natural features of the course, such as two large ponds, creeks, trees, valleys, hills, and wetlands. It has a total of 36 holes, and consists of both the Canyon and Lakes courses. The Canyon course is highly regarded as one of the most representative courses in Asia. It is an extremely majestic course with many ups and downs, and is designed for advanced players. The dynamic scenery of the ponds and creeks as water hazards among the exposed rock faces of the mountains is also impressive. Each shot requires accurate shots. This is because the natural hazards waiting in front are strategically placed to be magnificent. Of the 18 holes, 10 are water hazards and a total of 80 bunkers are placed throughout the course. Each hole is in harmony with nature, very beautiful, and completely separated by rubber forests and ponds. There are holes that go through the rainforest and strategic holes with good views involving water, so there is a change in style. Not only are there uphill and downhill shots, but there are also many dogleg holes and undulating greens. International tournaments are often held here. The winners of the "Johnnie Walker Classic" on the European Men's Tour, which has been held three times in the past, were Greg Norman in 1994 and Tiger Woods in 1998. It was also held in 2007. Previously, you could only walk with a caddy, but now you can use a cart. You can use the cart not only on the cart path, but also on the fairway. Personally, I like playing on foot, but playing in Thailand is hot all year round, so having a cart would make playing even more enjoyable.

Red Mountain Golf Club

Red Mountain Golf Club

This is a hilly course with a large difference in elevation, built on the site of a former tin mine. Small red soil hills cut down over many years of mining are dotted throughout the course, separating each hole. Combined with the abundant tropical rainforest, this creates a unique landscape. The course is designed to make the most of the natural location, with many holes having narrow fairways, and is generally aimed at intermediate to advanced players. Not only are the fairways narrow, but ponds and bunkers are also strategically placed, requiring players to use their brains to decide whether to attack or defend on each hole. It is a fantastic layout that skillfully combines long and short holes on all short, middle and long holes.

Kirinara Golf Course (9 holes)

This is a parkland course that unfolds in a basin with some elevation difference. It is a 9-hole course, but if you play it twice it becomes a par 72, 6,444 yard course. Water hazards are well made by making good use of the water flowing from the surrounding mountains, and water is involved in 5 of the 9 holes. Palm trees are densely lined on both sides of the holes, the bunkers are well placed, and there is variation on each hole, making it a challenging course considering its length. The greens are fast and roll well. The clubhouse is on high ground, and the view of the course below is wonderful.

Rajjaprabha Dam Golf Course

A golf course developed deep in the mountains of Thailand's majestic nature near Khao Sok National Park. With a dramatic layout, the greens are tough, and some holes are very challenging. It has a good mix of holes with lush broadleaf trees and rainforests on both sides, and holes with ponds entangled in the nine holes due to six large and small ponds. The four par 3s are long and quite difficult. There are also good par 5s. The four out-starting holes have a gentle layout, but the five to ninth holes are interesting. Just behind the 12th green you can see the spectacular dam that gives the course its name, and the three holes at the end are also unique. It's a fun course to play on with beautiful scenery, and you can play a comfortable round. The course is in a fairly remote location, so it's a "hidden gem" that is little known to the public. In Thailand, there are many courses owned by the navy and designed by staff (unfortunately, many of them are not that interesting), but it's amazing that the staff of the Electricity Generating Authority can create such a good course.
