Course Introduction

  • Blue Canyon Country Club (Lake Course)

A short hole over a pond. There is a pond not only in front of the green, but also on the left. The green is 60 yards long and diagonally runs from the front right to the back left.

A difficult par 4 hole with a step on the fairway on both sides. The second shot is over a hazard 70 yards in front of the green.

  • Blue Canyon Country Club (Lake Course)

A dogleg to the left hole. There are water hazards on both sides of the fairway. The second shot must go over the water, and the bunkers in front of the elevated green also come into play.

  • Blue Canyon Country Club (Lake Course)

A beautiful short hole over a pond. It is long and the pond and bunker in front of the green, as well as the bunker at the back, come into play, so your tee shot must be long and accurate.

  • Blue Canyon Country Club (Lake Course)

A long par 5 hole. The green curves to the right about 150 yards from the green. The third shot over the creek is the key. How you tackle the second shot is important to get the third shot to a good spot.

  • Blue Canyon Country Club (Lake Course)

A steep dogleg hole to the left. It curves left and right, so each shot requires careful course strategy to get the next shot into an easy spot. If you try to take a shortcut and land your ball in the trees on the left, you're more likely to end up with a bogey or worse.

  • Blue Canyon Country Club (Lake Course)

This is a par 5 hole with a slight uphill tee shot. The best route for the tee shot is to aim to the left of the tall tree in the center of the fairway. A pond cuts into the green from the front right, and the fairway slopes to the right, so hitting the second and third shots to the right is a no-no.

A straight par 4 hole. For the tee shot, aim for the left side of the fairway to make it easier to hit the second shot. A 2.5m deep bunker awaits in front of the left side of the elevated green.

A long and very difficult par 4 hole. There are two fairways for the tee shot, the upper and lower ones. Long hitters are risky as they must hit over the pond just in front of the green, but they can aim for par with a fairway wood. Even if you are playing a second shot in a third shot contest, the pond on the left side cuts into the fairway, making it narrow and requiring an accurate shot. The green is relatively small, and if you can get par, it is as satisfying as a birdie. When the course first opened, there was a bunker just behind the green, but it was removed because it was a very difficult setup with a pond in front and a bunker at the back.

After working for Nippon Ryokka Doboku Co., Ltd., Mr. Kato became independent as a designer. Other courses he has designed include Treasure Hill G&CC in Thailand and The Southern Links GC in Okinawa, Japan. After designing the Canyon Course, Mr. Kato was worried that the course would deteriorate if it was not properly maintained, as it was so well-made, so he moved from Japan to Thailand. He still advises the golf club today. The Canyon Course is one of the most highly acclaimed courses by Japanese people who have designed golf courses overseas.
